Radio Frequency (RF) Microneedling
RF microneedling uses tiny needles and radiofrequency energy in a hand-held device, to rejuvenate the skin. The treatment is based on encouraging a healing effect after a controlled injury of the skin has been implemented. This creates new collagen and elastin, which can help with lines, wrinkles and scars, such as acne scars. RF microneedling is minimally invasive and requires very little downtime or aftercare. Your skin will become is thicker and smoother after a course of treatments.
RF microneedling can target the following skin concerns:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Stretch marks
- Large open pores
- Acne scars
- Scars from surgery or trauma
- Loose, sagging skin
A topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin, around 30 minutes before the treatment begins, to negate any discomfort. Once your skin is numb, your practitioner will pass the device over the skin, making tiny wounds with the needles. The tips of these needles release RF waves in to the skin, to heat the skin at a deeper level and create a wound healing effect (the production of collagen, elastin and capillaries). The procedure takes around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the area/s to be treated. You may experience some redness following an RF microneedling treatment, but there is no clinical downtime and you can return to your daily activities immediately afterwards.
Injectable treatments (Botox®, dermal fillers, skin boosters, Profhilo®)
Botox® – When injected in to specific areas of the face, Botulinum Toxin Type A temporarily blocks the nerve receptors which move the muscles which create facial expressions. Lines such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines and glabellar lines can be smoothed for up to 6 months at a time. In some cases patients can enjoy smoother skin for up to 8 months, although we recommend a 6 monthly treatment to maintain results. You will still be able to form expressions and Botox® can look very natural when administered properly and carefully by a fully-qualified medical professional. It is important to only have Botox® by a doctor, dentist, nurse or surgeon and never by a non-medic. There is no clinical downtime following a Botox® procedure, although is some aftercare required such as not bending forward, rubbing the treatment area and avoiding hot steam, saunas and baths for around 24 hours after the treatment. You might experience some slight tenderness, very slight bruising and tiny bumps at the site of injection, which will subside within an hour, but you can return to your daily activities (excessive physical exercise an exception) immediately after your Botox® treatment. Many patients start to see results after 24 to 48 hours, however, expect full results to be seen at 2 weeks following this treatment.
Dermal fillers – arguable the most versatile of all injectable substances, dermal fillers contain a synthesized form of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar which is responsible for lubricating and cushioning parts of the body, such as the joints, connective tissues, the eyes and of course, the skin. Dermal fillers act as non-surgical facelifting substances. They can fill fine or deeper lines, volumize areas which have become hollow or sunken, fill and smooth facial folds and re-sculpt and re-shape the facial contours for a natural look.
Dermal fillers can help with following facial concerns:-
- Sunken, hollow temples
- Sagging cheeks
- Under eye bags and hollows
- A crooked nose
- Thin, ageing or asymmetrical lips
- A weak chin
- Nose to mouth lines and folds (nasolabial lines and folds)
- Mouth to chin lines (marionette lines)
- Jowls and turkey neck
- Ageing hands
- Full facial rejuvenation
Before most dermal filler treatments are carried out, a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to the treatment area. Your practitioner may also use ice or an ice stick to cool and calm the area too. A needle or a cannula will be used, depending on the thickness of the product, the area to be treated and the technique your practitioner wishes to use. Most dermal filler treatments can be completed in around 20 to 30 minutes, but allow more time for the numbing cream to take effect. You can experience some swelling, bruising and tenderness after your dermal filler treatment, so it’s important to time your treatment around any social events, holidays or engagements. You can discuss this with your practitioner in your initial consultation. Results can be seen immediately, but you may require a period of a few days to allow any swelling to subside. The longevity of your results will depend on several factors, such as your body’s own response to HA, your lifestyle and how you take care of your skin. Again, this will all be discussed in your pre-treatment consultation.
Skin boosters – commonly referred to as ‘injectable skincare’, skin boosters replenish the skin with lost HA, vitamins and peptides. They work with the skin’s cellular structure and help the body to produce more collagen and elastin (vital substances for youthful, bouncy skin tissues). Used in various areas of the face, skin boosters won’t fill lines or hollows, but will help replenish the skin for a youthful glow and more resilience to the ageing process. A course of treatments may be required. However, many patients find that their skin is more youthful looking and feels smoother, more resilient and softer after just one treatment.
Profhilo® – an injectable, hyaluronic acid skin remodelling system which rejuvenates the skin without filling or relaxing facial muscles. Profhilo® consists of 2 treatment sessions and is injected in to 5 points in the areas of the face. Profhilo® stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin, with slow release of hyaluronic acid. Profhilo® is the next generation in injectable treatments and can offer significant long-term skin improvement. Profhilo® can be used in a range of areas including the face, neck, hands, elbows, knees and décolletage and results can last anything from 6 to 8 months.
